In 2001 the Coporation of London appointed
Sir Fredrick Snow & Partners to carry out a programme of refurbishment
and upgrading works in the prestigious Barbican Centre, London, a multi arts
and conference venue. The first contract in a term commission awarded to the
company was to provide building services engineering for a major
refurbishment of the arts centre's entrance foyer, to be phased
over several years and carried out while the centre remains open.
Other works have included design and tender documentation to provide temporary cooling to the level 0, 1 and 2 kitchens prior to the upgrade of the ventilation systems. Feasibility reports were carried out to replace or refurbish the ventilation serving levels -2, 0, 1, 2 and 3 restaurants and kitchens including the Barbican Balcony Bistro (right). This led to the replacement and refurbishment of air handling plants associated with the report items. The structural project of inspecting the a de-mountable seating within the centre was carried out in 2003. M&E carried out design and site supervision services to new lighting and bar services, creating power wiring to lighting and emergency lighting. Replacing existing bars which new located bar areas to be used during performances ( below left).
Other projects the Company has worked on within the Barbican Centre have included the refurbishing and improvement of the Art Gallery (below left) and the refurbishment of the Centre’s book and gift shop (below right).
Current Projects The Barbican Foyer is currently being upgraded for easier access from Silk Street and to create stylish attractive entrances for the centre. A project has recently been commissioned for Sir Frederick Snow & Partners Ltd to carry out a concept study on the Barbican School of Music to alter the paint shop ventilation to avoid the noise problem on BBC. |
