In
September 2004, Sir Frederick Snow and Partners Ltd were appointed by
the Ministry of Public Works and Communication of the Government of
Guyana to carry out a Feasibility Study and Detailed Design of the
preferred option. Tender Documents were produced including full
Specifications.
The
existing configuration of the apron enables four aircraft to be parked
nose-in. It was requested that two more nose-in stands could be
provided. It was also identified that there was considerable fuel
erosion on the apron, which combined with drainage problems was
presenting serious problems for aircraft operations. After much
discussion a preferred scheme was developed in tandem with a
do-minimum scheme. Currently monies are being secured from the Inter
American Development Bank for the Construction Phase.
In addition to the visual surveys, Core Tests, Trial Pits and a GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) Survey were carried out to gain a further understanding of the prevailing conditions. A locally arranged Topographical Survey assisted the preparation of the Apron Design.
