In
December 2004 Sir Frederick Snow and Partners Ltd were appointed by the
Tanzania
Airports Authority to carry out a Design Review of a 1998 Design, which
proposed substantial improvements to the Main Runway 05/23, Terminal 2
Apron and the Main Taxiway, Zulu. In addition Snows were requested to
prepare designs for all remaining Taxiways including a proposed Parallel
Taxiway, Cross Runway 14-32 and both Terminal 1 and the Cargo Apron.
Replacement designs for the Aeronautical Ground Lighting (AGL) were also
prepared.
Ancillary Civil Works included investigations and
designs for Surface and Foul Water Drainage.
A
comprehensive Topographical Survey of the Runway
Taxiways and Aprons were carried out, to compensate for the lack of any
existing digital data-bank. Other considerations included the
optimisation of operations with respect to the prevailing wind. The
project was concluded in August 2005.
